Children’s Privacy
This notice covers two different things: our policy on children under 13 (COPPA), and the guardian controls that apply to every athlete under 18. Most of our athletes are in the second group.
1. Children under 13
YouRecruit HQ is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.
We ask for date of birth during sign-up and we refuse the account if it shows an age under 13. This is an enforced check, not a checkbox: there is no path through sign-up that creates an under-13 athlete account.
We chose an age floor rather than building a verifiable-parental-consent flow for under-13s. That is a real product decision with a cost — we turn away some young athletes — and it is the honest one for a platform built around high school recruiting.
1.1 If we learn about an under-13 account
If we discover that an account belongs to a child under 13, we delete the account and its personal information promptly, including any submitted video. We do not retain it while we investigate, and we do not require a parent to prove anything first.
If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, email privacy@yourecruithq.com with anything that identifies the account. You do not need to be the parent to report it.
2. Athletes aged 13 to 17
COPPA does not apply above 13, but the reason for it does. So the following applies to every athlete under 18 on the Service, as a matter of our own policy and of state law where it is stricter.
2.1 A minor’s profile is hidden by default
When an athlete under 18 creates a profile, it is not publicly visible. It stays hidden until a parent or legal guardian gives explicit permission to publish it. Search engines cannot see it before that, because there is nothing to see.
2.2 Three things a guardian must permit
These cannot happen for an athlete under 18 without a guardian’s specific, recorded permission. Each is separate — granting one does not grant another:
- Recording. Capturing and processing video to produce a measurement.
- Publication beyond recruiting.Making the athlete’s information publicly visible or redistributable.
- Brand contact and NIL. Any commercial approach, and any name-image-likeness activity. See the NIL Disclosures.
We request these by email to the guardian address on the athlete’s account. A guardian does not need their own account to grant or withdraw permission.
2.3 Withdrawal works, and it works immediately
A guardian can withdraw any permission at any time. When they do:
- the action it authorised stops;
- share links relying on it stop working;
- any signed verified record relying on it is added to our published withdrawal list, so copies already sent to other people stop validating;
- if publication consent is withdrawn, the public profile comes down.
The third point is the one that took real design work. A verified record is built to be checked by anyone without contacting us — which is exactly why withdrawal had to be built in from the first record rather than bolted on. Otherwise “we withdrew consent” would mean nothing to the copy already in a coach’s inbox.
2.4 What we do not do with a minor’s data
- We do not sell it, or share it for behavioural advertising.
- We do not show behavioural advertising to minors at all.
- We do not put a name, email, or date of birth inside a signed verified record, so a record that travels does not carry identity with it.
- We do not let a third party operate a minor’s account — no agency, no recruiting service, no “profile management” company.
- We do not record anonymous views of a minor’s profile.
2.5 Safety escalation
Anything involving a minor’s safety — a threatening or sexual message, an approach from an unverified adult, a report of exploitation — is escalated to a human immediately and is never closed by an automated system alone. Report to privacy@yourecruithq.com; if someone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first.
3. Guardian rights
A parent or legal guardian of an athlete under 18 may:
- see what we hold about their athlete;
- correct it;
- delete it, and the account with it;
- export it;
- withdraw any consent previously given;
- refuse a permission without losing access to the rest of the Service.
Email privacy@yourecruithq.com. We will verify that you are the guardian on the account before acting, because acting on an unverified request about a minor would itself be the harm.
4. Schools
Where a school or district asks us to process student information on its behalf, that arrangement is governed by a separate written agreement with the school, and student information provided under it is used only to deliver the service the school asked for.
